Nursing student Ashley Mangubat believes her upbringing was defined by the warm memories shared with her family at the dining table, passing around ladles of homemade sinigang and scoops of freshly steamed rice.
"In Filipino culture, not only do we share a sense of connectedness ...through the value of 'kapwa,' but we are also brought together by the joy of expressing our love through a shared meal. Caldereta, adobo, arroz caldo, dinuguan, kare kare — all of these dishes mean so much more to me when I eat them with the ones I love," Ashley, Class of 2026.
