2nd Viewing ・ Study Session "Fidelio Fidelio"

The second performance of the season is Beethoven's masterpiece "Fidelio". The viewing will be on March 12 （ Wed ） at 7 pm, and the last minute study session will be on March 11 （ Tue ） at 6 pm.

There are many brave women in opera, but I think the bravest is Leonora in Beethoven's "Fidelio". She finds a prison where her husband, Florestan, who has been missing for two years, seems to be imprisoned, and pretending to be a man, she gets a job there as an assistant warden to find a way to rescue her husband. One day, the opportunity presents itself, but it comes with too great a risk. Well, the end result is ….

Beethoven, also known as the "Sage of Music," composed nine famous symphonies, many instrumental works, and many lesser-known songs. However, he composed only one opera, "Fidelio. What are the reasons for having only one opera ？ What is the revolutionary difference between "Fidelio" and a conventional opera, as is the case with Beethoven's symphonies ？ And what did Beethoven have in mind when he wrote this opera ？ I hope to find answers to these questions as we study the opera together with you.

The leading role of Fidelio is sung by Lise ・ Davidsen from Norway, a soprano of exceptional power. Lise ・ Davidsen has just recently announced that she is pregnant with twins and will be taking a break from singing for a while. Our viewing will be one of her last performances before giving birth. （ We are lucky ！ ） to have as our partner David ・ Bat ・ Philip, a tenor from England. And the three male bass and baritone supporting the flanks are overwhelmingly wonderful, and this is sure to be a profound opera. Veteran female conductor Susanna ・ Marucchi takes the podium.
