アメリカンネームって?

最近そんな人はどうしてるんだろうと思ったことがあります。
私の名前は日本でも珍しいもので、米国では発音しにくいどころか何度教えても覚えてももらえません。
中国人の方などはアメリカンネームを持ってますが、それって自分で好きな名前を作ってるのでしょうか?それとも本名の漢字の何らかの意味を捩ってるのでしょうか?
私の友達で米国企業で勤務してる子は、クライアントに覚えて貰える様にボスからアメリカンネームを付けられたそうです。
親しみやすい名前を考えようかと思っているのですが、せっかく両親に頂いた立派な名前があるのに申し訳ない気がしています。
みなさんは日本人がアメリカンネームを名乗るのに抵抗はありませんか?微妙に気にしてしまって尻込みしてます。
宜しければアドバイスお願いします!

私も抵抗ありました。子供の頃からミドルネームはあったのですが、使わずに生活してました。大学生の頃、教授に名前が難しいからEnglishNameはないか?と聞かれたことがあったりもしましたが、自分の名前が好きなので、押し通したりもしてました。(笑)仕事をし始めてミドルネーム使い始めましたが、呼ばれていくうちに抵抗はなくなりました。
以前勤めていたところで日本人上司は自分でつけたって言ってましたがそういう人もたくさんいます。henさんが必要だと感じたら好きな名前をつけても良いのではないでしょうか。
私はアメリカ生まれなので、親も含めてほとんどの知り合いはミドルネームがあります。中には意味があってつけられたりしている子もいますけど、ほとんど親がこの響きが好きだったから、とかそういう単純な理由ですよ。
あまりアドバイスになっていないかもしれませんが、henさんのトピックを読んで自分もそういう頃があったなぁって懐かしくなり返信しました。

慣れてしまえば何でもない事なんですよね。出足が気恥ずかしいって思ったのですが、NYに居ることだし、呼びやすい名前を考えてみます。友達にも相談して私っぽい名前を探してみます!
