悪用に関しての質問

Yelpの口コミを見て評価が良かったので、古いiphoneを売りにeast 47thのSell electronicsというところに行って売ってきたのですが、一つ気になることがあり投稿しました。手続きの時に私のphotoIDのコピーをコピー機で取られ、その下にサインさせられました。こういうトレードは何回かNYで経験したのですが、photoIDの提示をしてサインはしましたが、コピーを取られることはありませんでした。
気になって、担当の女性に聞いて見ましたが、法律で決められているからと言われました。最近、個人情報悪用のニュースをよく耳にするので、気になっています。トレードした時に、こういうことってありましたか？何か情報いただければと思います。よろしくお願いします。
