NYの住宅事情

NYのアパート、住宅事情について質問です。
現在サンフランシスコに住んでいまして、来年年明けにNYへの移動の話がでています。
オフィスがミッドタウンとバッテリーパークの近くにありまして、どちらに移動になるかはまだ決まっていません。
皆さん、どの程度通勤に時間をかけているのでしょうか?
住まない方がいいエリア、リーズナブルなエリア、ハイエンドなエリアなど教えていただけると嬉しいです。あと、アパートのレントの相場は?
アパートのレントですが、サンフランシスコはNYに続く家賃の高いエリアなのである程度の覚悟はできています（笑）
マンハッタンの知識がまったくないので、こんなザッとした質問ですいません！！！

この登録まだ回答する価値ありますか?年始にいらっしゃるというので遅いかもしれませんね。当方NYに仕事で２００１−２００８年の７年間在住。そして昨年の秋からまた戻ってきて、レントの沸騰と、街の変わりように驚いています。ご年齢などにもよって楽しめる街も違うと思いますが、まだ意味ある情報になるなら今度コメントしてみます。もしくは、メールを下さい。
